The U.K. stock market experienced gains on Wednesday, with the FTSE 100 Index closing up 1.83% at 7,416.11.
Notable Increases
Among the FTSE 100 constituents, International Distribution Services PLC (IDS) saw the largest increase, with shares rising by 6.78%. This air freight company performed exceptionally well.
Antofagasta PLC (ANTO), a non-ferrous metals firm, and Intermediate Capital Group PLC (ICP), an investment advisors company, also experienced significant gains of 5.57% and 5.22%, respectively.
The top five largest increases were completed by Glencore PLC, a general mining company, and RS Group PLC, a wholesalers company, with their stocks climbing by 4.87% and 4.46% respectively.
Largest Decline
International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (IAG), a passenger airlines company, faced the largest decline among the FTSE 100 constituents. Its shares fell by 2.28% on Wednesday.
Other Decreases
Several other companies experienced decreases as well. Bunzl PLC, a wholesalers firm, saw its shares drop by 2.02%. London Stock Exchange Group PLC, a securities company, also faced a decline of 0.22%.
Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC and Dechra Pharmaceuticals PLC, both pharmaceutical companies, rounded out the top five largest decreases with their stocks declining by 0.19% and 0.11% respectively.
Exchange Rates and Commodities
The pound strengthened against the dollar by 0.46% at $1.2992. However, it weakened against the euro by 0.54% at €1.1681.
Brent crude increased by 0.9% to reach $80.11, while the 10-year gilt yield declined by 16.700 basis points to 4.502%.
