European stocks ended the week on a positive note, with the Stoxx Europe 600 index rising by 0.17% to reach 444.24.

  • The German DAX climbed by 0.30% to settle at 15,189.25.
  • The French CAC 40 index experienced a slight decline of 0.19% to finish at 7,047.50.
  • The FTSE 100 index dropped by 0.39% to close at 7,417.73.

Top Gainers

Among the constituents of the Stoxx Europe 600, Idorsia Ltd., a health care and life sciences company based in Switzerland (+14.5%), showed the largest increase in share price on Friday. Other notable gainers were Wizz Air Holdings PLC (+10.6%) in the air transport sector, and Siemens Energy AG (+8.7%) in the industrial goods industry.

Zalando SE (+7.9%), a major retail company, and Galapagos N.V. (+7.8%), specializing in health care and life sciences, also saw substantial gains in their stock values.

Top Losers

A.P. Moeller-Maersk A/S Series B, a prominent transportation and logistics company (-16.9%), experienced the largest decline among the Stoxx Europe 600 constituents on Friday. Shell PLC (-4.2%), an established firm in the fossil fuels sector, and Uniper SE (-3.7%) in the energy industry also recorded notable decreases in their stock prices.

Other significant losses were observed in Novo Nordisk A/S (-3.6%), specializing in health care and life sciences, and TotalEnergies SE (-3.5%) in the fossil fuels sector.

Market Outlook

The pound (GBPUSD) saw a significant increase of 1.48% against the dollar, while the euro (EURUSD) climbed 1.14%. Meanwhile, Brent crude fell by 1.59% to reach $85.47.

In bond markets, the yield on the 10-year gilt (BX:TMBMKGB-10Y) dropped by 9.39 basis points to 4.294%. The yield on the German 10-year bund (BX:TMBMKDE-10Y) also decreased, falling by 7.380 basis points to 2.65%.
