Initially, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Justice Department asked Aron to keep the matter confidential while they conducted their investigation and prepared for court proceedings.

Following the apprehension, conviction, and sentencing of the extortionist in July, Aron informed AMC Entertainment’s board of directors. They subsequently conducted a review with the assistance of the independent law firm WilmerHale.

“It is important to note that this incident was entirely a personal matter,” Aron clarified in a detailed post on X. “The issue has been resolved, and I consider it closed.”

AMC Entertainment was not available for immediate comment regarding this matter.

According to a press release by the Justice Department in September 2022, the defendant involved in the blackmail plot targeted affluent and high-profile individuals through a catfishing scheme. By assuming multiple online identities, they threatened to release explicit photos and communications in order to extort money from their victims.
